Our commitment to Aboriginal education

At our school, we are proud to highlight our commitment to enhancing the educational outcomes of our Aboriginal students through two key documents that serve as guiding frameworks.

Acknowledgement of country

An Acknowledgement of Country is a way of showing respect for the Traditional Owners of the land on which an event or meeting is taking place, recognizing their continuing connection to their Country

Our Aboriginal Education Committees

The committee assists in school planning in relation to Aboriginal education, the implementation of the school’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Actions document and organising relevant days of celebration such as NAIDOC Week, Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week.

Our Aboriginal Education Officer (AEO)

This role is centred around fostering a strong partnership between the school and Aboriginal families. Together, we can create a nurturing environment that celebrates our cultural identity and promotes educational success.

Our Aboriginal Programs

Our school is committed to creating an inclusive environment that celebrates Aboriginal identity, culture and history.

Our Aboriginal Student Voice

Our Aboriginal Student Voice group actively engages all Aboriginal students in Years 5 and 6.

Our dhurga Language Program

Since 2020, Moruya Public School has proudly included dhurga (the local Aboriginal language) Language Program in its curriculum for all students in Years 4 to 6. This initiative is held weekly on Wednesdays and is designed to promote inclusiveness and cultural understanding among students.
