Through the dhurga Language Program, Moruya Public School is fostering a rich learning environment that values diversity, promotes inclusiveness, and builds strong community connections.
Our Language Teacher
Mrs. Kerry Boyenga's journey is a testament to her unwavering commitment to education and the revitalisation of the dhurga language. As a proud Brinja Yuin woman, her roots in Moruya inspire her work in various educational roles over the past 30 years.
Her diverse experience as an Aboriginal Education Assistant, Learning Support Officer, Aboriginal Liaison Officer, and educator in both public and Catholic systems showcases her dedication to education. Now, as a dhurga Language Teacher, she plays a crucial role in preserving and teaching the dhurga language.
The collaborative effort with her siblings to develop the dhurga dictionary is a significant milestone in language preservation, providing vital resources for learners and educators alike. By teaching the dhurga language at TAFE and across multiple schools, including Moruya Public School, Mrs. Boyenga not only enriches the curriculum but also fosters a deeper connection to Aboriginal culture among students.
Her work is incredibly inspirational, serving as a model for integrating Aboriginal perspectives into education and promoting language and cultural heritage within the broader community.
